Maybe you’re searching for “Login authentication failed. Please check your network and device to make sure you’re using the correct account. 212” or “Riot Login Failed. Please try again later. 5”
If you’ve been trying to log in to League of Legends: Wild Rift and keep running into errors, you’re not alone. A lot of players seem to have been experiencing login issues, game performance problems, and app errors.
I wanted to share what I’ve seen, based on my own experience working in tech and following Riot’s patterns over time.
It’s Probably Not on Your End
When things like this happen, our first instinct is to try everything: reset the app, restart the phone, maybe even reinstall Wild Rift entirely.
But here’s the thing:
When the problem is on Riot’s side, none of those fixes will really help.
These kinds of issues are often tied to server-side problems, not individual devices. It could be overloaded servers, regional outages, or even specific services like anti-cheat systems failing to initialize. Sometimes the issue could be tied to external services Riot uses—maybe a cloud provider (for example, AWS)—that may be having their own problems.
Riot’s Status Page: Helpful, but Sometimes Delayed
You can always check Riot’s Wild Rift status page here:
But in my experience, Riot’s status updates tend to lag behind what players are actually seeing.
Here’s what likely happens behind the scenes:
- Players start reporting issues.
- Riot’s internal dashboards may start flagging problems.
- Tech, dev, or partner teams get pulled in to investigate and start working on a fix.
- Only after that does the comms team update the status page.
So, by the time we see an update, the issue may have already been brewing for a while.
A Faster Way to Check: Crowd-Sourced Sites
When Riot’s status page is quiet, crowd-sourced websites like DownDetector may give you faster feedback.
You can see live reports from other players and get a better sense of how widespread the problem is.
These community-driven tools aren’t official, but they’re a good pulse check when the official sources are lagging.
So What Can You Do?
Unfortunately, when it’s a server-side issue, the best move is usually to wait it out.
Based on patterns I’ve seen in the past, resolutions can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour, depending on the severity.
In the meantime:
- Check social media (I like Reddit best for this) for player updates.
- Refresh Riot’s official status page.
- Try again later if the issue persists.
Final Thoughts
Server problems happen, and from what I’ve seen, Riot typically works pretty quickly to resolve them once they’re aware. The frustrating part is often the communication delay, but hopefully this gives you some context on why that happens.
