Overview

PathSeed (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a career development platform at https://pathseed.org. We provide tools, resources, and an AI-powered Career Assistant to support your professional growth.

This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with. By using the Site, you agree to this Policy. We may update it at any time; changes take effect when posted with an updated date above.

What We Collect

Career Assistant

The PathSeed Career Assistant is an AI-powered chat tool embedded in the Site. It offers multiple AI personas (SYNTH, Nova, Marcus, Aria, Kai, and David) to provide career guidance across several interaction modes including standard chat, Journal Mode, and Interview Mode.

  • What we collect: Chat messages (including those sent in Journal Mode and Interview Mode), career goals, job preferences, work history, skills, interview responses, journal entries, and other details you share during conversations. If you use document features, this includes resume and cover letter content.
  • Living Profile: The Career Assistant builds a persistent profile from your conversations to personalize future sessions (e.g., your career goals, skills, work history, personality traits, and preferences). This profile is updated automatically and accumulates data across all sessions. You can request deletion at any time.
  • AI processing: Your messages and any personal information you share in conversation (including names, work history, and career details) are sent to third-party AI providers for processing. Avoid sharing sensitive personal information (such as Social Security numbers, financial account details, or medical information) in your conversations.
  • Document uploads: You may upload documents (such as resumes or cover letters in PDF or similar formats) for AI review. Uploaded files are stored securely in a non-public directory, processed by our AI providers, and automatically deleted shortly afterward (typically within about 24 hours).
  • Generated files: Resumes, cover letters, and other files generated by the Career Assistant are stored temporarily for download and automatically deleted shortly afterward (typically within about 24 hours).
  • Achievements: The Career Assistant tracks a gamified achievements system. Predefined achievements are awarded based on your activity (e.g., number of messages sent, features used). Custom achievements may also be generated by AI based on the content of your conversation. Achievement data is stored as part of your session.

Voice Features

The Career Assistant includes optional voice features: text-to-speech (TTS), which converts assistant responses to audio, and speech-to-text (STT), which converts your spoken input to text.

  • TTS: Assistant response text is sent to our TTS provider to generate audio. We do not retain the resulting audio files beyond what is needed for playback.
  • STT: Audio recorded through your microphone is transmitted to a third-party transcription provider (ElevenLabs) for conversion to text. The resulting transcript is then processed as a standard chat message. We do not retain raw audio recordings after transcription in the normal course of operating the Site.
  • Microphone access: Voice input requires your browser to grant microphone access. You may decline microphone access without affecting other features of the Site.

Current Events Mode

The Career Assistant includes a Current Events discussion mode that lets you discuss news topics — including careers, markets, world news, local news, politics, and sports — with AI assistance.

  • What we collect: Your messages and topic selections within Current Events discussions, along with AI-fetched news content used to ground those conversations.
  • Live search: For topics requiring current data (such as markets, world news, and sports), your messages may trigger a real-time web search. Search queries are generated by the AI based on your conversation.
  • Ideology Profile: When you engage with politically oriented topics in Current Events, the Career Assistant may generate an AI-inferred summary of your apparent political or ideological preferences based on those discussions (“Ideology Profile”). This profile is stored as part of your session and, if you choose to sync it, may be merged into your Living Profile. The Ideology Profile is used solely to personalize your experience on the Site. You may request deletion of your session data, including any Ideology Profile, at any time.

Portfolio

The Site offers an AI-generated Portfolio feature that creates a public-facing career showcase page from your Living Profile data.

  • What we collect: Career history, skills, goals, and other profile information used to generate and display your Portfolio. You may also set a custom mission statement and other portfolio-specific content.
  • Public visibility: Your Portfolio is publicly accessible by default once published. You control visibility and may set your Portfolio to private or password-protected at any time. You are responsible for the content displayed on your public Portfolio.
  • Contact and messaging: If you enable the contact feature on your Portfolio, visitors may send you messages through an on-site inbox. These messages are stored on our servers and associated with your Portfolio. You are responsible for managing and deleting messages in your inbox.
  • Version history: The Site retains prior versions of your Portfolio to allow you to revert to a previous state. Version history is kept until you delete your Portfolio.

Social Seeds

Portfolio owners may opt into Social Seeds, a lightweight professional networking feature that allows you to connect with other Portfolio owners on the Site.

  • What we collect: Connection requests you send or receive, the status of those connections (pending, accepted), and any messages exchanged through the Social Seeds feature.
  • Public discoverability: If you enable Social Seeds and opt into public discoverability, other users may be able to find and view your Portfolio and send you connection requests. You control whether Social Seeds is enabled for your Portfolio.
  • Social Seeds is opt-in: This feature is disabled by default. You may disable it at any time.

Resume and Cover Letter Generator

If you use the standalone resume/cover letter tool (separate from the Career Assistant), you submit your name, contact details, work history, and related information. Files are stored securely for a short period for download, then automatically deleted (typically within about 24 hours).

User Profile

If you create a profile, we store your name, job preferences, career history, and other details you provide. This is kept until you ask us to delete it.

Newsletter

If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address and keep it until you unsubscribe.

Comments

If you leave comments on the Site, we collect your name, email, IP address, and browser user agent to manage comments and detect spam.

Cookies

We use cookies for site functionality (including session management), remembering your preferences, analytics, and serving ads through Jetpack Ads. Advertising cookies may track your browsing activity across websites to deliver personalized ads. You can manage cookies in your browser settings, but disabling them may affect site features, including the Career Assistant.

Analytics

We collect usage data (page views, session duration, feature interactions, AI model usage, and interaction patterns) to understand how the Site is used and to improve it. This data is used in aggregate and is not sold to third parties.

Content Moderation & Safety

To keep the Site safe — particularly during beta — messages you send to the Career Assistant may be automatically screened for policy violations as part of providing the service.

  • Automated screening: When moderation is enabled, your messages are checked by an automated moderation system (including a third-party moderation service and keyword/pattern checks) to detect content that violates our policies. This screening is automatic and applies to Career Assistant messages.
  • Flag records: When a message is flagged, we store information about the flag — such as the category, a confidence score, the time, and a pointer to the relevant message within your chat history. The message itself remains part of your chat history (covered above); the flag record links to it rather than duplicating it.
  • Human review: An administrator may review an individual flagged message to assess it. Such reviews are limited to flagged content, are logged, and are used for safety and abuse-prevention purposes. We do not routinely browse conversations that have not been flagged.
  • Enforcement: If activity violates our policies, we may suspend a session or restrict access (including by network/IP) at our discretion, and access may be paused automatically.
  • Beta notice: During beta, sessions may be reviewed for safety and quality.

Location & Regional Access

We determine the approximate country associated with your connection (derived from your IP address via our hosting infrastructure) to control the regional availability of the Career Assistant and for security purposes. We use this to restrict access from regions where we do not offer the service, including regions subject to applicable sanctions or trade restrictions. We do not use it to track your precise location, and country determination is approximate and may be affected by VPNs or network routing.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data described above to provide and improve our services, including delivering AI-powered career coaching, generating career documents and portfolios, personalizing your experience (including through your Living Profile and Ideology Profile), enabling professional networking through Social Seeds, processing voice input and output, sending newsletters, managing comments, displaying ads, analyzing site performance, keeping the Site safe through content moderation and enforcement, and controlling regional availability of the Career Assistant.

Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your data:

  • AI processing providers: We use one or more third-party AI providers to process your messages, documents, and profile data and to generate responses, documents, profiles, achievement descriptions, and other content, as well as to perform text-to-speech and automated content moderation. We may use different providers at different times for reliability and quality. These providers process your data under terms that restrict their use of it (including terms instructing them not to train on your data), but their own terms and privacy policies govern data once transmitted.
  • Voice transcription provider (ElevenLabs): Speech-to-text (voice input) is handled by ElevenLabs. Audio recordings of your voice input are transmitted to ElevenLabs for transcription, and its privacy policy governs how it handles audio data once transmitted.
  • Automattic / Jetpack: Provides WordPress hosting infrastructure, site analytics, and advertising services (Jetpack Ads). Jetpack Ads uses cookies and tracking technologies to serve targeted advertisements. Automattic’s privacy policy governs data collected through these services.

We cannot control and are not liable for how third parties handle data once it leaves our systems. Each third-party service is governed by its own privacy policy.

Data Retention

  • Generated documents (resumes, cover letters, PDFs) and uploaded documents: Automatically deleted shortly after use, typically within about 24 hours.
  • Chat history, Journal entries, Interview sessions, and Living Profile: Kept until you request deletion.
  • Current Events conversation history and Ideology Profile: Kept as part of your session until you request deletion.
  • Portfolio content and version history: Kept until you delete your Portfolio.
  • Social Seeds connections and messages: Kept until you disable Social Seeds or request deletion.
  • User profiles and comments: Kept until you request deletion.
  • Newsletter email: Kept until you unsubscribe.
  • Content moderation flag records: Retained for safety and abuse-prevention purposes until no longer needed for those purposes or you request deletion of your session data.
  • Session enforcement records (suspensions and network/IP restrictions): Retained while the restriction is in effect and as needed for abuse prevention.
  • Cookies: Varies by type; advertising cookies may persist across sessions.

Your Choices

You can:

  • Request deletion of your personal data, including your Career Assistant profile, chat history, Ideology Profile, and Living Profile, by emailing us.
  • Export or import your Living Profile using the export/import tools in the Career Assistant.
  • Control Portfolio visibility (public, private, or password-protected) at any time.
  • Enable or disable Social Seeds and contact features on your Portfolio at any time.
  • Decline microphone access to disable voice input without affecting other features.
  • Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Unsubscribe from newsletters at any time via the link in any email.
  • Manage or block cookies through your browser settings.
  • Opt out of personalized advertising where supported by your browser or device.

Please note that access may be restricted or terminated, and content moderated, where necessary for safety, abuse prevention, or legal and regional compliance.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including SSL/TLS encryption in transit, access controls, and secure non-public storage for generated and uploaded files. That said, no system is perfectly secure. Use of the Site is at your own risk.

AI Disclaimer

The Career Assistant and document generators use artificial intelligence to produce responses, resumes, cover letters, portfolios, achievement descriptions, ideology summaries, and other content. We do not guarantee the quality, accuracy, completeness, or originality of any AI-generated output. You are responsible for reviewing everything before you use it.

AI-generated career advice is informational only. It is not professional career counseling, legal advice, or an employment guarantee. AI-generated ideology or political summaries reflect an automated interpretation of your stated discussion preferences and are not a definitive characterization of your beliefs. Automated content moderation may also produce errors, including incorrectly flagging or restricting legitimate content. We are not liable for decisions made based on AI-generated content.

User-Generated Content and Public Portfolios

If you publish a Portfolio or enable Social Seeds, information you include may be visible to other users or the general public. You are responsible for the content you choose to make public. We are not responsible for how others may use or share your publicly visible Portfolio content.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Third-Party Links

The Site may link to or embed content from external websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content.

Email Attachments

If we send generated files to your email, you are responsible for safeguarding those attachments once delivered. We are not liable for unauthorized access to your email account.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy at any time. Changes take effect when posted. We may notify you of significant changes via email or on-site notice at our discretion.
